Yongjia High-Speed Railway Station is situated in Wenbei New City, Yongjia, Wenzhou. Centering around the station, the New City will be developed into a dynamic zone which integrates public transport, business, culture, education, residence and office functions.
The design of the station is inspired by
the styles of traditional oil-paper umbrellas commonly found in the south of
the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Drawing on the umbrella structure as
the basic elements of station building, the design creates an array of the
structural units to unify the station building and platforms under one roof.
Umbrella-shaped units on roofing stretch from the middle towards both two sides,
echoing to the process by which high-speed trains gradually gain acceleration.
Meanwhile, the central part of roofing arches upward to highlight the functions
of the station building and also create the center of vision. Space within the station
hall is also defined by the umbrella structure to fully embody uniform
structural aesthetics inside and outside the hall. The main facade of the building is gradually transformed from
opaque to transparent from the both sides towards the middle, as if gauze
curtains is steadily drawn apart, creating an image of architectural opening.
In this scheme, the architectural form and structure are organically unified to
response to the traditional regional culture whilst effectively meeting
functional requirements.
