Xiaojie Cultural and Activity Centre is
composed of a public service building and a culture & sports building. It offers
functional facilities for community service, exhibition, library, cultural
activities, performance hall and gymnasium. Two buildings are set out 90 degree
to each other to semi-enclosed two outdoor squares respectively dedicated to
sports and parent-child activities.
Facing along the north-south direction, the public service building is alternatively constituted by 3
significant functional masses and 2 transparent glass masses to create a rhythm
alternating tightness with relaxedness, as well as a rolling skyline. The
building¡¯s roof is characterized by a horizontal canopy which explicitly defines
the skyline of the building and expresses a state of steadiness.
The culture & sports
building, facing along the east-west direction, is set to physically echo to
the presence of the public
service building. It is made
up of 2 functional masses and 1 glass connector mass. As an auxiliary building,
its skyline is blurred to visually reduce the building mass and weaken the challenge
posed to the public
service building.
