Yinma River Bridge, Changchun

Yinma River Bridge on Tonggang Road in Changchun City Airport Economic Development Zone, is located at the downstream of Shitoukoumen Reservoir, and is 3500m of straight-line distance from the existing Changchun Longjia International Airport runway. The building height of the bridge¡¯s location is restricted by the height limitation of airport area. Taking the airport runway as the benchmark, the height ristriction is 25m. The distance between dikes on the two sides of the bridge is about 1220m, among which the width of water accounts for about 500m. The two sides have been planned as Yinma River Wetland Park.

Scheme-1
Located in the Airport Economic Development Zone, the bridge is also the gateway to Changchun Longjia International Airport, and serves as an important junction for the two-way transport between the city and the airport. Therefore, we try to adopt a form related to aviation for the bridge. Referring to the structure of extra dosed cable-stayed bridge and adapting the low tower into a pair of spread airplane wings have created the aesthetic streamline shape that is similar to the aircraft. The shape fosters strong senses of impact, speed, and guidance, just like embracing and leading people to pass through it.

Scheme-2
Scheme-2 highlights digging the historic and cultural elements within the area. Shitoukoumen Reservoir, located at the upper stream of Yinma River, is where the ¡®dragon tail mountain¡¯ of Qing Dynasty lies. Thus, the overall planning of the river system is targeted at reconstructing the features of ¡®dragon tail¡¯. The bridge leads to the Changchun ¡®Long Jia¡¯ International Airport, while the adjacent artificial lake is named as ¡®Long Ze¡¯. (The character for ¡®Long¡¯ means dragon in Chinese language.) Both the names of airport and lake center on the topic of ¡®dragon¡¯. As a response to this historic and cultural element, we adopt the arch cable structure. Running across water and bridge, the arches imbued with flowing sense demonstrate the images of ¡®dragon¡¯ and ¡®water¡¯ with abstract and architectural languages.
